Dying alone in the mid(d)le of the sea
The series Dying alone in the mid(d)dle of the sea consists of enlarged, screen-printed versions of small notes that were created as by-products of a game I played with friends and colleagues, in which unpleasant/disturbing situations are noted on small folded paper slips.
The fears and dislikes of the person who wrote them down are sometimes serious, sometimes rather abstract, sometimes funny, but in any case very personal. The individual handwriting gives the original notes, which are only a few centimeters in size, a very intimate quality.
In my graphic reproduction and duplication, I have enlarged the small notes by a factor of about ten, making them “picture-sized” so to speak. When selecting the papers for the screen prints, I stuck as closely as possible to the respective original and used the corresponding lines (squared, ruled, etc.). The colors of the inks used and the folds of the notes, as well as spelling and grammatical errors, are faithfully reproduced in the large print versions.
